Canadians aren't likely to see relief at the pumps anytime soon after gas prices shot up to record levels in parts of the country on Saturday.

Some of Canada’s largest cities, including Toronto and Vancouver, saw prices rise more than two cents per litre. In Toronto, gas prices spiked to an average of 140.7 cents per litre.

Dan McTeague, co-founder of the website Tomorrow’s Gas Prices Today, said prices could climb even higher.

“It would look a little bit like panic city for many, especially in Eastern Canada and B.C., where prices have spiked to all-time highs,” McTeague said in an interview on News Channel Saturday.

Putting off the evil fillup for awhile. With 3 vehicles averaging 61 mpg (Prius C), 45 mpg (VW Jetta diesel wagon) and 35 (Subaru Forester AWD) and all with full tanks, maybe I can wait out the panic. Oh, and that's US mpg. The Canadian mpg is 73, 54, and 42 for those three.

See, it helps if you drive a sensible car and then drive that car sensibly.

Canada has so much oil, yet we're paying record-high gas prices in Toronto yesterday and today.

Canada has it's own oil and we are paying thru the nose for gasoline because of what is happening in Iraq.

It is amazing how in the US we use Canadian oil and it's cheaper that the Canadians themselves pay for it.

Maybe they need more pipelines. At least that is the solution they are trying to sell here.

We should have built the Keystone Pipeline and more refineries so our Canadian friends could have cheaper fuel!

There is no justification for it. I expect we produce all of our own gas and oil.

I'm sorry the people in Caanda have to endure higher gas prices, but I'm glad the prices here in the Unite States aren't going up asmuch.

Great and I am going to Nova Scotia this week. Well at least the dollars is stronger this year than last - well maybe only a little bit. But at least I'll be helping the Canadians pay for their health care with their 15% tax.

Ottawa was part of that increase as well but the eastern part of the city didn't suffer the same fate. There is a ten cent difference between the eastern & western part of the city. Maybe they're making up for the construction mess in the east.

It must be Canada's Big Oil executives giving notice to all Canadians to allow the industry to do as it pleases with no regulation at all.
