Detroit— Don Dale got his first Corvette when he was 16 years old. It was a 1968 Corvette with 427 horsepower under the hood.

“My dad said, ‘did you have a fun time driving it home?’ I said, yeah and he said, ‘well, you’re going to have a fun time driving it back then,” said the Shelby Township resident. “I had it one day.”

Dale, 57, never lost that desire to have a Corvette, but it took him until nine years ago to get one that he could actually keep. Three years ago, he traded that vehicle for a 2006 Sunset Metallic Orange model, one of only 288 made in that color.

“It’s all about performance,” he said of what attracted him to the powerhouse vehicle.

Around 100 Corvette owners gathered behind the General Motors building in downtown Detroit Saturday to show off their cars and talk shop

Good for those who truly want one. I'm not willing to pay the high insurance rates for it.

Those cars are likely driven with more care and respect than the majority of vehicles on the road.

Keep your Corvette, its for those who love those kind of toys. It has very little utility. Only one bag of groceries please.

Now don't get me wrong I like Corvettes. I have a 1984 Vette in my garage and wouldn't mind upgrading to a newer later C5. They seem to be one of the more reliable cars in GMs stable. It just happens they're in a family/company that I don't think should have taken our money in good faith and we lost 11.2 billion dollars on the deal. They could pay back the treasury in full and make good to those killed and injured from their failure to fix known problems if they really wanted to.

The worst part of GM is that you have "Old GM" and "New GM." "New GM" wanted to wipe their hands of everything "Old GM" did wrong, but NHTSA, the plaintiffs' bar, and the court of public opinion is not letting them get away with it.

Buy a Ford or a Toyota, you don't have to deal with "Old Ford" or "Old Toyota."

If the heat gets too heavy on GM, what is to stop them from going bankrupt again and coming up with "New New GM" and wiping their hands from everything "New GM" did wrong?

Ford accounting sets aside an amount for anticipated recalls and warranty expenses, with GM they end out having to take unexpected earnings charges to pay for their "early and often" recalls.

They should have a funeral for GM the way they do it in India. Pile up a stack of wood, put a dead Corvette on top, and set it on fire. They could do it in front of the GM building so the mainstream media would be ready to pick up the story.

They should pray that their vehicle does not have what one Government Motors former employee signed off on as the "Switch from Hell." GM needs to look at every one of their vehicle designs and make sure the ignition switch will stay where it should be, in the "run" (as long as there isn't something else wrong with the quality GM product) position, until the driver turns the key.

Best bang for the buck of any sports car I've ever seen. Maintenance is very low for the C6, and that 30+ miles per gallon on the highway it's a great car to drive!
