LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Oil industry analysts are warning a brewing civil war between Islamic militants in Iraq could potentially send gas prices soaring here in the Southland.

KNX 1070's Pete Demetriou reports the price of crude oil has shot up to $107 per barrel – the highest in 10 months – on reports that soldiers with the al-Qaeda-inspired Islamic State of Iraq and Syria captured two towns in an ethnically mixed province northeast of Baghdad.

This is the legacy of our president. He pull troops out too soon and this happens. At this rate, his replacement will have to send them back in.

Analyst pushing panic. Iraq will be more stable when it determines its own destiny. That may very will result into its being broken into thirds.

Amazing that a few of you actually blame Bush for this?
So after 6 years, Obama isn't accountable for anything?
It was his bright idea to completely abandon Iraq for political gain.

Same old crap, different day when it comes to price increase excuses from speculator vultures & their talking heads. Meanwhile, the roller coaster ride of fuel prices under Oblamer continues amid all his lies, coverups, scandals, failed economic & foreign policies, abuses of power, gross incompetence, & major campaign contributions from Big Oil/Utilities. Working class taxpayers continue to be screwed at the pump, with our utilities, & with our taxes while Oblamer pushes his tree hugging, stimulus sucking, union dominated, out of control spending, ultra liberal agenda at our expense. Stop this madness in Nov 14 & start taking our country back before it's too late!

It took 2 US divisions to control Baghdad a few years back. I don't believe a few thousand ISIS terrorists can do it.

"Oil industry analysts"- code words for Wall Street propagandists. They're telegraphing what to expect over the coming months. There's no real justification for a spike in prices, but don't let the facts get in the way. It's all about the false perception that Wall Street wants you to believe.

We can lay this one at the feet of George Bush. Taking out a dictator doesn't always bring the best results. Saddam Hussein was definitely ruthless, but he did provide order and he kept the worst Jihadists out of Iraq. Perhaps THIS was why he invented weapons of mass destruction as justification for circumventing Congress and getting their declaration of war.

We see the same pattern in Libya & Egypt. Hmm? You don't think this could have been planned, do ya? Conspiracy kook.

Don't we produce enough domestically for this to not be an issue?

The loss if Iraqi crude could easily be absorbed by other producing countries. This could possibly get Iran back in the west's good graces enough to permit crude sales to the west.

If the U.S. is the largest producer of oil and we keep all oil produced then do we really need any of the Iraqi oil?

No wonder the oil companies and their henchmen want to export our crude oil production - they can double the price of oil they sell to US..... From our own fields..

Gas prices are going up, the only question is how fast.

You can thank Obama's numerous foreign policy missteps for the fact that no enemy of ours considers us a viable threat to stop them.

Thank you, Obama.
Thanks for nothing.
