SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) — Oil futures held their ground below $100 a barrel on Thursday, with ample domestic crude supplies and some downbeat U.S. data raising questions about the strength of an economic recovery.

Crude oil for June delivery /quotes/zigman/2237082/realtime CLM4 -0.25% fell 45 cents, or 0.5%, to $99.29 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Tracking the most-active contracts, prices closed below $100 on Wednesday for the first time since April 2. They fell for a second consecutive month in April and have dropped for three of the past four months.

Data on Wednesday from the Energy Information Administration showed crude supplies rose less than expected, but nonetheless hit record levels.

Crude prices may have dropped and supply increased, but it doesn't show at the pump.

The price of distillates has had nothing to do with the price of oil for a while now.

Don't expect prices to fall as the roller coaster ride of fuel prices continues under Oblamer amid all his lies, coverups, scandals, failed economic & foreign policies, abuses of power, gross incompetence, & major contributions from Big Oil. Working class taxpayers will continue to be screwed at the pump, with our utilities, & with our taxes while Oblamer pushes his tree hugging, stimulus sucking, union dominated, out of control spending, ultra liberal agenda at our expense. Stop this madness in Nov 2014 & start taking our country back before it's too late!

Change the laws regarding speculators and the price will stay considerably less than $100 a barrel.

"But the oil industry holds gasoline prices at absurdly high pricing."

Do you really consider a profit of less than $0.08 per gallon absurd pricing??

There should be ample supply and hopefully Congress will not pass legislation that will allow oil exporting.

Yes, midNJ, they soon will:

RBOB Gasoline USd/gal. 293.31 -0.57 -0.19% Jun 14 contract

That's down over $0.10 per gallon from early this week.

yeah.....check back in a couple of hours...we'll be completely out of everything..then, day after tomorrow we'll have a whole lot of something, but we'll have to raise the cost because of all these ups and downs and stuff. it takes a lot of money to keep changing this figuring and what not.. !ha! ha!

Doesn't matter what barrel price is. Oil people will still find a reason to charge more at the pump.
