President Obama chose Good Friday to announce another delay in the Keystone XL pipeline, which would bring crude oil from Canada to our refineries near the Gulf. If the pipeline is not approved, Alberta's oil will go to Asia-and the United States will be the big loser.

According to Terry O'Sullivan, general president of the Laborers International Union of North America, writing in the Washington Post on April 25, "Despite efforts by an environmental fringe to hijack the mantle of progressivism or attempts by the far right to make Keystone a wedge issue, energy development is not a right-wing or a left-wing issue. It is critical to our country and to all of us."

With the latest delay, President Obama is widening the split in his fragile Blue-Green coalition.

Obama will cancel it after the 2014 election since Americans are overwhelmingly in favor of building the pipeline. We've lost jobs, GDP and lives because of the delay.

Canada's western pipeline option has met with stiff resistance as well. It's almost as if people foresee something going going wrong with a pipeline carrying pressurized oil through the wilderness and farmland and populated areas.

The whole world is the loser. Energy that gets produced and goes to market increases the overall worldwide supply, thus facilitating the meeting of worldwide demand. If worldwide demand is more easily met, prices are driven down worldwide, due to the more easily obtained supply.

"If the pipeline is not approved, Alberta's oil will go to Asia-and the United States will be the big loser."

The pipeline through western Canada is receiving as much opposition as the Keystone XL is in the U.S.

OTTAWA — AND you thought pipeline politics in the United States were treacherous. Rebuffed by Washington on bringing the Keystone XL pipeline down through the western United States, Canada now finds that its Plan B — to build a pipeline to its west coast for shipping to Asia — has become mired in domestic politics thick enough to rival the tarlike oil it hopes to sell.

Because we don't go after these oil energy jobs, our economy remains in the doldrums as China passes us as the worlds top economic power, a position the USA had held for 130yrs.

Isn't China the loser?

If the oil was for the USA then there's no need to ship the oil all the way to the shipping ports.

It looks like there's a lot of pro China supporters here.

Contrary to all the true believers out there who swallow the propaganda hook line and sinker, the XL remains a bad idea for many reasons. None of that oil is destined for the U.S. market, for one.

The loss goes beyond the IMMEDIATE economic benefits. This is also a national security issue. We would more easily be able to defend the security of oil transmission through a pipeline through our heartland that through the Straits of Hormuz.

with this in the courts of Nebraska. that being the hold up. how does the federal government push this though. the right always complains about states rights. who are you pulling for now. there has to be more than one way to get the pipeline built. move it or ship it. Canada should build there on refineries this would solve there problem

conniecounsol & HorizonChaser, You need some economics classes girl and unknown gender person. Let us say person A has $5 and wants to mail it to person B. Postage stamp and envelope at the post office is, for arguments sake, 50 cents. Then on the way to the post office person A sees person B and hands them the $5. The looser in this transaction is the post office who loses 50 cents in business.

Now let us say country A (we will call them Canada) has a few billion dollars of oil they want to refine and ship to country B (we will call them China). They want to send the oil via a pipeline to refineries and ports in country C for processing and shipment (we will call them the USA). So if Canada has to ship the oil from Canadian ports to China because the USA doesn't want the pipeline and any economic benefits from the short term and long term jobs it makes in construction, maintenance, refining, shipping and any ancillary jobs that those jobs may support as well as the tax revenue from those jobs and profits who loses? Not Canada and not China. That leaves the USA as the only loser.
