The Pakenham-area farm is capable of generating 10MW of electricity, was built as part of a $500M deal to construct 9 solar facilities in ON

5 more are expected to open this year

Calgary-based TransCanada may be best known for pipeline projects such as the partially completed Keystone network. But it is pushing into power generation from renewable sources, including Canada’s largest wind farm in QC and another huge wind farm and hydro stations in New England. It’s also a partner in the Bruce Power nuclear station on L Huron

Solar farms have sprung up across ON in response to healthy government incentives aimed at renewable energy. TransCanada, which will generate 86MW from its 9 farms, has a 20-yr agreement to sell electricity to the ON Power Authority at the premium rate of $443/MWh

without massive subsidies (paid for by citizens) solar and wind would die
