Government support for corn-based ethanol is such a sacred cow, thanks to corn-growing Iowa’s important presidential caucuses, that skeptic John McCain used to quip that he drank a cup every day. But ethanol, the biofuel touted as an important part of the renewable-energy future, causes almost as many environmental problems as it solves. Now, amid a rising tide of opposition to ethanol, the Environmental Protection Agency recently proposed scaling back how much of it is included in the nation’s gasoline supply for the first time since such targets were mandated by Congress in 2005. Despite the inevitable political outcry, the EPA should stick with its recommendation.

It's about time EtOH mandate is abolished. Not diminished, but abolished.

The corn-for-ethanol agenda is nothing short of an ecological and financial disaster that is costing us far more than money. Ethanol may remain a part of the strategy, but it is a shrinking one, with its energy and environmental promises withering on the stalk.

I do NOT want ethanol in my pick up truck, my car, my wife’s car, my daughter’s cars that I work on, my lawn mower, my chain saw, or anything else!

Our system is broke, broken, desperate, corrupt, and in need of a swift kick out the door.

E0 Now!

Ethanol. A losing proposition all the way around. But the federal government mandated it. Go figure.

Ah, BTW, . . If you do away with ethanol, . . . Then what do you use instead ?
Tetra-ethyl-Lead ? (Remember this ?)

Look at China's air quality.

Ethanol greatly reduces smog and toxic auto exhaust.

I don't believe they can expect widespread backing on anything! There are certainly a bunch of people who do not want anything at all to change.

The best use for ethanol is to place it in an oak barrel that has been charred on the inside, then let it age for about 12 years.

"The Associated Press reported this month that 5 million acres of conservation land have been converted to corn crops during the Obama administration — “more than Yellowstone, Everglades, and Yosemite National Parks combined.” While defenders of ethanol, such as Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, the former governor of Iowa, continue to maintain it is a greener fuel, the conversion of Midwestern grasslands and wetlands to cornfields is imperiling migratory wildlife and releasing carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The crops themselves have required billions of pounds of fertilizers, threatening drinking water in some places."

Just say no...

EPA’s small cutback in ethanol use is a minimal first step if it is upheld.
Now let’s go for the whole ball of wax and repeal the RPS mandate.

If the EPA doesn't have any more sense than to refine corn, which is a food staple, perhaps we should pull the plug on the EPA.

Use any extra crops to make ethanol before selling outside our country unless the price is high enough.
