The eastern Canadian provinces of Quebec and Ontario are unlikely to use "undue" commercial benefits as a bargaining chip for allowing TransCanada's proposed Energy East crude oil pipeline from Alberta to pass through their jurisdictions, Alberta's Premier Alison Redford said late Thursday.

The premiers of those provinces are clear about the tremendous economic opportunities the pipeline will create, but they would first like to ensure residents of their provinces and stakeholders are comfortable with the development, she told reporters during a conference call from Edmonton.

"Things are going in the right direction and it is pretty much time now for the pipeline to get built," Redford said, adding that the next stage would be the filing of a regulatory application and a subsequent appro

"The pipeline has a targeted in-service date of late 2017, and at its terminating point at Canaport, New Brunswick, TransCanada and refinery-operator Irving Oil have formed a joint venture to build, own and operate a deepwater marine terminal for crude oil exports."

Alberta never seems to see the same problems that everyone else does to building pipelines through their territories. I suspect that they will encounter plenty of hurdles before this or any other pipeline gets built in Canada or the U.S.
