When it first was announced that a hoard of some 500 vintage cars would be sold at auction in September, people were quick to post comments on the website of Nebraska auctioneer Yvette VanDerBrink.

One of the first to comment complained that even though some of the cars were “new” and had been driven only a few miles, after 40 or 50 years of storage likely engines were seized, hoses and gaskets would need replacing, etc. He said it would take more work to get them driveable again than they were worth.

“Sounds like you’re a glass-half-empty kind of guy,” came a quick response from a more optimistic collector.

Owning a classic comes with it's own set or drawbacks.

The cars pulled in higher prices than I thought would occur.

When I first heard of this, I figured it was going to become a legendary sale. I have a feeling that some of these cars are going to be restorers dreams and showing up either at auctions or car shows for years.

Even though this is old news. It is still a great story. These cars are very valuable for the following reasons. The most important reason is that "All Number Match" That means the cars are all original and have not been modified. The next reason is the cars are complete. This means that 99% of the parts are on the car. Engines that have been still for years can be brought back to life with a little TLC. No you do not just put a new battery in it and start it. There is a process to gently start it again. If restored to factory color that is on the body ID plate, you will see a lot of these cars on Mecum Auto auctions in years to come for a lot of money.

I suppose many of the folks will restore or jazz up the cars anyway, so whether they run or not isn't so important.
