Paul Elio is the driving force behind what might become the most sensational automotive innovation in fuel efficiency and design: the Elio. (That's pronounced ee-lee-oh.) It's a three-wheeled vehicle built on a reverse tricycle platform but enclosed like a standard four-wheeled auto. It may sound unusual, but the Elio costs $6800, can reach a top speed of 107 mph, and gets an estimated 84 mpg. What does the car have to offer for today's buyer?

A lot. It gets 84 miles per gallon. It has a five-star crash rating and a price tag of $6800. There are 95 million cars out there that are 11 years or older, and buying one of these is a lot cheaper than driving around an old clunker.

Very personal transportation. It doesn't look like or remind me of anything I can remember seeing. Not your car pool people mover, no.

I do not believe confidence in the vehicle would last beyond the back nine and not make it at all on a real highway. Disappointing in that it looks like a friendly machine while in its own environment which isn't along side real machines at highway speeds. Snow and Ice must also be hugh enemies of this three wheeler.

For a commuter car to go to and from work I think it's a great idea. The fuel cost savings alone would pay for it pretty fast with a $6800 sticker price.

Could use one right now, to drive to and from work.

Could use one right now, to visit friends and relatives more often.

Could use one right now, to drive more often than surf the internet.

If it has a 5-star crash rating, it should be safer than its competitor, a motor scooter.

Not really a new design here. There have been many attempts (both successful and otherwise) in Europe using 3-wheeled automobiles.

This is simple a new take on an old design, interspersed with modern technologies.

Sounds like it has a lot of potential for inner city dwellers.
