n October 1973, the Arab members of OPEC pointed at the United States — and fired.
The Arab nations in the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries imposed an embargo on direct oil shipments to the United States in retaliation for U.S. support for Israel, which was battling invasions by Egypt and Syria. They also announced production cuts of 5 to 10 percent.

“I’m sitting at my desk at the Pentagon,” recalls James Schlesinger, then secretary of defense, “and a cable comes in, and it reads: ‘In accordance with the orders of His Majesty, we are obliged to cut off all oil supplies to your 6th Fleet and to your forces in western Europe. Signed [Saudi oil

Maybe not a whole barrel, but to brag about U.S. oil independence now is a bit premature!

If you believe OPEC is going anywhere you are wrong. While the cartel is not as powerful as it once was it is still very healthy.

The sun is setting on OPEC.

OPEC will soon be selling desert sand.

OPEC controls the barrel, only if the U.S. let's it.

As long as Oblamer is in office, not only do the OPEC vultures have us over a barrel but the rest of the world is laughing at us because of his Chicken Little approach to the govt shutdown & debt ceiling. Is there any adult leadership here?

Amazing as approving the Keystone pipeline from Canada would ensure the USA is not dependant on OPEC.

Until we become less tied to oil in general we will be at the mercy of foreign governments. Using less and finding alternatives is the only thing that can work in the long term.

Definitely yes. But OPEC has also become accustomed to raking in the $billions from us so I don't think they'll do anything drastic. There isn't enough demand from the rest of the world to replace what we're buying. Regardless, get Keystone built and we can import even less from OPEC. I don't understand why Obama is sitting on this.

So do a quick flip to natural gas vehicles and stop using OPEC oil.

Or is there too much money being made with the present setup?

studebaker1940 said: "As long as we have a Muslim president."

To which GoBlazers responded: "Retard."

Who's the retard here?

Obozo's "apology tour" to Muslim nations, his push for NASA to make Muslims feel better about themselves, his aid to terrorists, his Indonesian/African Muslim heritage, his slip of the tongue and his now obvious general disdain for Americans and trashing of the economy all knit together to form a pretty good picture of our liar-in-chief to be the Muslim he denies he is.

No president has ever done so much damage in such a short time to our nation. You have to have been a retard to vote for him, even one time.
