It's a whole new game when it comes to fuel efficiency.

Myth: To get good fuel economy, you need a small car.

You don't have to squeeze into a subcompact car to visit the pump less often. Although it seems logical, "The smaller car is not always the most energy-efficient," Boundy says.

Size simply doesn't matter as much anymore. Instead, Boundy says a lot of what makes a car fuel-efficient is under the hood, in the materials it's made of or the way its body is designed.

For example, newer, standard-size vehicles have advanced technologies such as hybrid drivetrains, diesel engines, turbochargers and low-rolling resistance tires that allow them to compete on the fuel-efficiency charts,

Keep your RPMs under 2,000 at all times and let the transmission do the work. Try it for one fill up and you will be pleasantly surprised.

Wow if we fell for all of those myths, I guess we should be embarrassed... In reality, the only one that really surprised was that premium gasoline with higher octane does not garner improved gas mileage... My experience has been that premium gasoline boosts my mileage by 2-3 MPG and that ethanol free gasoline gives me an additional 5-7 MPG. While my driving habits and routes vary so the measurements are not in any way controlled or scientific, the results would suggest that there is a correlation between higher octane and the lack of ethanol and increased gas mileage...

The big question, here again, is where do I get a job writing these lame top-10 internet articles?

No editors to get in the way of a bad story.
No pesky fact-checkers to shut you down.

Of course, it probably doesn't pay much.

Where did they come up with those "myths", anyway? I never thought they were true.

Glad even larger vehicles are getting higher mpg's. Be nice if there was a way to get our mini van much closer to the highway mpg's in town driving. Too many stop signs here though.
