Falcon wing doors? Aren't they gull wing doors? And why do people think these are good ideas.

It looks to be an interesting and unique vehicle. It's outside my affordability range unless I win the lottery.

Doesn't look like much of an SUV to me. Looks like it's not even as large as a BMW X3. The 0 to 60 numbers look good, but what about the range? And how much is this thing going to cost?

Sell it to hunters, bird watchers, etc. as a way to get into the woods quietly without spooking the animals you're hunting, observing, etc.

I only hope the base price is $60,000 so it is affordable to most people.

The falcon wing doors for ease of entry without requiring much door swing space and 'step into all three rows of seating' alone are going to make this a class leader from the get go. Since they are competing against expensive luxury SUV competition on a price range--"Porsche Cayenne, Range Rover and offerings from BMW and Mercedes"--the X will not be 'cheap' but it wasn't intended to be. The blistering performance along with the incredible traction/road holding of the extremely low centre of gravity of the Tesla design just cannot be matched by conventional drivetrains. This vehicle is to extend the vehicle range while Tesla slowly triples its output to 80,000 units a year...and keep Tesla solidly profitable in the process. People have to remember that the former NUMMI plant (Toyota/GM collaboration) that Tesla now owns can easily put out over half a million vehicles a year without changes--but they have planned for those changes when they will be needed. They also know the perils of growing too fast.

Lowering the price when economies of production are achieved will be one of the steps taken by the next vehicle, the small sedan of the BMW 3 size and price range. This has been the plan from the very beginning--start out with a very limited production very expensive Roadster, then introduce a top end luxury sedan for 2/3 the price of the Roadster and make as many of those in a month as you made Roadsters over three whole years. Next, the luxury large SUV in a similar price class while you ramp up production so that you are making in one month what you used to build in a quarter, and THEN go down market in stages as you increase production further.

From the small sedan platform, the rumoured small SUV (Like the electric RAV4 Tesla builds for Toyota) electric pickup truck, and next generation Roadster will likely be built.

When they have the production up over a couple of hundred thousand a year, THEN they can start to introduce the lower cost to build and sell models. Heck, Tesla makes the electric Smart right now for Mercedes-Benz to sell, as well as the electric RAV4 for Toyota, so they know the costs of mid range, and even micro cars at the bottom of the market.
