As the U.S. government shutdown heads into a second week, the oil and gas industry is taking notice.

Experts say projects from the Keystone XL pipeline to offshore drilling permits may feel the impact.

Upstreamonline, an online oil and gas trade publication, reported former Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said that although offshore drilling permitting continues, applications for offshore exploration and production has come to a halt.

Drilling in the Gulf of Mexico is significant for the energy industry in the U.S., Salazar told reporters in a Washington, D.C., conference call, adding, “It’s not the kind of rollback we ought to have.”

The offshore Gulf of Mexico production accounts for 23 percent of total U.S. crude oil production and 7 percent of total U.S. dry natural gas production,

There is plenty current oil/gas production in current process to cover it.
As for Keystone, looks like those Koch boys got the screws on this one. heh heh.

I don't think that Big Oil is too worried - they are making plenty of money with the current projects.

The president said in his own words that he would not negotiate. So by not negotiating, yeah, it impacts everything! Hello??

Need to impeach or recall all of them and get in new people who have a clue (and some business and common sense) to run the country.

Oblamer & his liberal followers always have an excuse or someone to blame when they don't get their way. The Chicken Little approach to the govt shutdown & debt ceiling doesn't solve anything either.

They voted at least 40 times to get rid of affordable healthcare with the same expected results. Instead of being content to suppress voting rights and winning more seats in the senate, they decided to hijack the process and put the economic future of the world's economy in jeopardy. Of course they can afford to pay 10 bucks a throw for petrol, perhaps.

Keystone to me is a non starter due to the fact that it will do nothing for the Average American but will do wonders for the Canadians shipping the crude and the refineries. How does that help you and me? The crude would come in the gas and diesel would go out to China.

This is what happens when you make the government your parent, your provider, your caretaker, your god.

Perhaps Americans should consider being adults, for a change, and take responsibility for making things happen.

Drilling for oil in the ocean seems to just ask for environmental disasters. Even if it is completely safe it is like nuclear energy, you only need one accident to create massive damage.

I seem to recall a drilling moratorium in the Gulf for about 2 years after the BP spill. It appears that the drilling recovered quickly.

Now sombody is crying Wolf less than 2 weeks into the shutdown....Remind me again in 2014 before the polls open. Thats about 13 months from now.
