As world temperatures and sea levels rise, the effects of global warming will be felt most acutely in Canada and other countries far from the equator, says a Canadian researcher and co-ordinating author of the latest report from IPCC

The first stage of the UN-backed panel’s authoritative report was released Fri and accompanied by a challenge, issued by Ban Ki-moon, for the world to “seize the opportunities of a low-carbon future.” John Kerry called it an “alarm bell” and pledged to work to reduce emissions

But the report drew little fanfare in Ottawa

Canada is among the top emitters per capita in the G20. It’s the clearest evidence yet that global warming is occurring – and that humans are the main cause

Climate warming is amplified at high latitudes. So warming over Canada is larger

Just a little fact, the Earth has warmed before, many times, and it will cool again, many times, as it has naturally for eons.

Yeah, I'd think they'd be tickled in Canada to have a little more warmth.

The countries like Canada will see it first.... The other countries near equator is the half cooked frog in the boiling pot... And the hotter they get, the more AC they turn on, and the faster temperature increase for them.

Note this: "Climate warming is amplified at high latitudes."

Its what the complacent in Toronto and Cincinnati and Houston just do not get. THEY might be running AC a few more days a year, but when permafrost (just like it says, perpetually frozen, even in mid summer, just under the surface, and down from 20 to well over 100 feet deep) melts and all the tundra starts emitting all that methane trapped there, then the change really happens fast. What is changing fastest is the seasonal temperatures in the high latitudes. Alaska in the mid 90s?? The north of Canada and Russia--the two largest countries in the world in land mass, have a huge amount of this ticking time bomb land.

Just a little fact: "PERMAFROST is a widespread phenomenon in the northern parts of North America and Eurasia, and in Antarctica. Between 40 and 50 per cent of Canada’s total land surface of 3.8 million square miles is underlain by permafrost. The total land area of the U.S.S.R. exceeds 8 million square miles of which 47 per cent is underlain by permafrost." (Tsytovich 1958)

http://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=2&ved=0CDQQFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fpubs.aina.ucalgary.ca%2Farctic%2FArctic13-3-163.pdf&ei=6mFIUoScFLOFyQGFwYDIDA&usg=AFQjCNEf4pfv4PTICL8UGQzvz74aSUCucg&bvm=bv.53217764,d.aWc

That is about 6 million square miles of permafrost. That is a lot of frozen boglands with trapped frozen methane; all of it closer and closer to mass melting on a seasonal basis.

Google 'methane' effect as a greenhouse gas compared to carbon dioxide.

A repeat article again manipulating the answer with little understanding of the real causes. Worth the same comments:

Quote: "Human beings are the cause of this transformation, and only action by human beings can save the world from its worst impacts.” J.Kerry

The sad part about most of the research done to date is that it's goal is/was to prove their answer to global warming was right rather that determining the real causes (hint: we can't control what's below our feet nor beyond our planet's changing magnetic field).

CO2 and it's other GHG are just symptoms. Global warming started some 10,000 years ago without industry and its carbon related emissions. In fact Earth went through some 19 cycles of warming, cooling & ice ages in the past 1.8 million years: all without combustion of hydrocarbons.

The sad reality is that CO2 'et al' are not the cause and we are not preparing for its worsening impacts. Instead, we are squandering trillions trying to develop ineffective and "costly" energy alternatives. Politicians answer: tax more, tax CO2.

I think they are right. The world should shut down all coal fired, natural gas fired and nuclear power plants. Make the use of electricity punishable by 30 years minimum in prison. Ban anything that emits anything. Ban all forms of transportation, including airplanes, cars, trucks and trains. And most important put a $10,000.00 monthly carbon tax on every human being for exhaling carbon dioxide. There that should fix everything.

Of course Canada is among the top emitters per capita. We live in a cold climate across a spread out country.

It will be felt in the countries which push all the Green initiatives...

Lets look at Germany...Billions invested in the Green Energy and the research shows it will slow Global Warming by 37 minutes....

Not really good bang for you buck...but when is anything Socialistic gets good bang for your buck? It is all about intentions, feelings and emotions and not the real world.
