Global warming has slowed since 1998 as pollution reached record levels and rising seas became a more pressing concern, according to a United Nations report that’s hardening views on both sides of the climate debate.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change said the temperature has been increasing at less than half the longer-term average since 1951. It also found for the first time most of the world’s untapped fossil fuels must remain in the ground to avoid catastrophic increases in storms and ocean levels.

The findings came in a 36-page summary of a report that’s aimed at guiding the work of policy makers and provided ammunition for both environmental groups pressing for stronger action on carbon emissions and skeptics who dispute that climate change is a concern. Scientists said

But why is the U.N. still peddling this crapola? I know why Obama does--he has to look after his crony capitalists.

Excellent points Zuegma!

The deniers of nature, the alarmists, are getting more and more vociferous as their models are failing at every turn!

Why warming is slowing down a bit (hint: its not getting colder, just slowing down on the heating) is pretty straightforward due to decade long variations, and additional cloud cover. Something like this Nova program explains one of the factors, 'global dimming' in an easy to understand fashion.
(each segment of the original program is about 10 minutes)

What we really have to worry about is not just carbon dioxide, but the much more potent green house gas methane, trapped in permafrost tundra north of 60 degree north latitude in Canada and Russia, and in vast quantities on arctic and antarctic ocean seabeds under extreme cold and pressure in 'ice like' methane hydrates. Although scholarly research in recent years (but not recently) has put the likelihood of 'contemporary climate change' from methane emissions on the the low side, scientists were also not expecting to find Greenland and Antarctic glaciers, some miles thick, melting from BELOW and thawing the bedrock due to a bit more seasonal meltwater on top running down inside through cracks. In other words, warming frozen depths on land and (with meltwater flow) underwater. My own take on this is that when you have previously unimagined events happening then your conclusions based on previous data of 5 or 50 years ago, just might be suspect.

There are both seasonal and long term cyclical variations of ozone and methane and carbon dioxide. However, these charts might just make you sit up and take notice. And NOTE that some scales are logarithmic and not straight line which would make them much worse:

Quote: "Human beings are the cause of this transformation, and only action by human beings can save the world from its worst impacts.” J.Kerry

The sad part about most of the research done to date is that it's goal is/was to prove their answer to global warming was right rather that determining the real causes (hint: we can't control what's below our feet nor beyond our planet's changing magnetic field).

CO2 and it's other GHG are just symptoms. Global warming started some 10,000 years ago without industry and its carbon related emissions. In fact Earth went through some 19 cycles of warming, cooling & ice ages in the past 1.8 million years: all without combustion of hydrocarbons.

The sad reality is that CO2 'et al' are not the cause and we are not preparing for its worsening impacts. Instead, we are squandering trillions trying to develop ineffective and "costly" energy alternatives. Politicians answer: tax more, tax CO2.

Sadly we have little to no control if the earth decides to warm or cool. These people can't accept the fact that we don't make a difference beyond our immediate sphere of influence.

The research is not going our way so we need to act now!

Remember the Affordable Care Act? "We need to pass the bill before we can find out what is in it?" - Nancy Pelosi

It was supposed to help the 15% who did not have health care....now 100% will not have health care or be able to keep their job or doctors...

Same old Socialist playbook...everyone needs to hurt so the elite feel better about themselves...

Does this sound familiar?

Regardless of the effect on climate change, efforts to reduce air and water pollution are needed for the health, safety and quality of life on our planet, and should be encouraged by all countries.

Global warming is caused partially by natural events beyond our control and partially by human activity. So let's put our energy into alleviating what we can instead of trying to prove the other guy wrong.

Quote from the article: "The Chicago-based lobby group is pushing to repeal clean-energy policies."

It's statements like this that bother me. What this group is saying they'd rather have dirty air. The cleaner the air, the better in my opinion. Let the skeptics move next door to a steel mill, refinery or other plant with smokestacks spewing out thick black toxic smoke for them to breathe. They might change their closed minds. (But I doubt it with the bottom line on their portfolios being the love of their life.)
