Bold, powerful, iconic. Those are three perfect words to describe the history of Ford's (NYSE: F ) Mustang. From the old movie duels with the Camaro to the race track and car shows, the Mustang has captured fans across America for decades. Unfortunately, like everything else, the Mustang will need to evolve to survive. That's about to take place next year, when Ford unveils its 2015 Mustang, and it will surely ruffle the feathers of longtime fans. The preceding photo is a rendering, and Ford has kept its new-look Mustang under tight lock and key. One thing is for sure: It will be drastically different.

If that's what it's going to look like, I'll be keeping my 2005 GT for a long long time, but we'll see when the actual model does roll out sometime in 2014.

Evolution is good. I'd rather have innovation instead, and that was the original Mustang.

Ford should definitely go ahead with the new Mustang even though I love the looks and the style of the current model. The nature of the Mustang doesn't need to be compromised.

To survive the Mustang must adapt and it can be an excellent car with more than adequate performance and mileage. So must the people who love the big V-8s that guzzle gas and pollute the atmosphere with CO2 adapt but I'm not hopeful for them. What they'll do is moan and groan about how the treehuggers are taking over.

If the Mustang drops 400 pounds and is smaller to reduce frontal area, good things can happen. The horsepower to weight ratio will be super for one.

They tried this once before..big fail. Also sounds like they are planning to pack high horsepower in a smaller chassis. Sounds like a disaster in the making.

I guess the auto makers still have not learned from their pasts. Remember what happened to the first Mustang when they changed it?

Can't say I'm a mustang fan but do like it similiar to other muscle cars of the day. Last time Ford tried to downsize it (Mustang II) it was a disaster & a peice of crap - girlfriend at time had one & it was cramped, buzzy & jumped sideways on large pavement irreg's, like the old Chryco's did.
Reason it didn't rebound from last car recession was because it was already falling because of gas prices & dropping descretionary spending (ie low avg income). Practicality also more of an issue if trying to make 1 car do the family.
I like the looks of front of it - can't see rear-end to say much (what pictures are posters hating it looking at it). Will this eco-boost be American made or from Europe as all existing ones have been (with all the hype in Ford's advertising of American made, it floored me to find out they're just now moving eco-boost engines to N.A. - or is it just the 4 cyl. ones, can't remember).

Based on the picture of that new model, the front half looks bold, powerful and aggressive. But the tail is quite UGLY!
