An analysis of water, sediment and seafood samples taken in 2010 during and after the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has found higher contamination levels in some cases than previous studies by federal agencies did, casting doubt on some of the earlier sampling methods.

The lead author, Paul W. Sammarco of the Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium, said that dispersants used to break up the oil might have affected some of the samples. He said that the greater contamination called into question the timing of decisions by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to reopen gulf fisheries after the spill and that “it might be time to review the techniques that are used to determine” such reopenings.

Eleven workers died and roughly 200 million gallons of crude oil gushed into

With the lies, coverups, & incompetence of the Obama Administration coupled with the thievery of BP oil vultures, this is not the least bit surprising. After the Gulf Spill, I vowed to never buy a drop of BP fuel & intend to keep that promise.

It is reasonable to suggest that the dispersants used in the clean up would have an effect on test results. IF the samples collected identified dispersants were present, then it is logical to conclude the contamination figure would show a lower contamination number. IT WAS DOING ITS JOB!

The oil & gas industry has given new meaning to the phrase "pick your poison".

Let US consider,
the Gulf of Mexico is prime fishing waters for sea food destined for human consumption.

Pre-oiled seafood platter, anyone?

There are normal oil seeps on land called "tar pits". And in water called "seeps". Bacteria eat up the organic material eventually.

The real need is to quit blaming BP for everything. Obviously there has been a problem with testing. It is just too convenient to blame the spill for everything from fish dying to climate change.

with all the technology the government pays for, they should be able to find out where 200 million gallons of crude went/is and then figure out what to do about it. stop all the cheap rhetoric and do something !!!!!

Order up a plate of lead shrimp. Just pass the bill over to BP.
As long of a time it had gushed out, the amount of damage is irreversible.

Mistakes were made, let's not add more mistakes on top of this incident. Wildlife and mother nature were damaged no doubt, I don't think we can ever calculate the true damages BUT we can learn from it and prevent any future incidents from happening again.

The oil spill was a big change in the environment. The full effects will not be evaluated, or maybe even felt, for a long time. Historians who try to understand events that occurred less than a hundred years ago are really just studying current events. Why should we think that NOAA is any better? That does not mean that we should not attempt to understand recent events. We are just not very good at it.

I would like to know why BP and or government agencies are not reclaiming the crude oil from the gulf since we have the technology.

We all still know there is more BP oil below the waters in the Gulf. BP is just wanting you to look at the surface.

Could also mean that the administration was putting pressure on NOAA to get the fishermen back to work instead of unemployment.

it is true, most of the time, that mother nature will heal old wounds, but this is a gaping wound that will take a generation or two, maybe even three, to heal..

if y'all think the gulf is clean, then start eating the seafood caught in that cesspool, about three or four days/week..be sure you have a better medical plan than nobamacare though-hehe..
