Phones must be capable of recharging via built-in technology, or use a case designed for the purpose. GM, an investor in Powermat, would be the first carmaker to build the technology into its models, Poliakine said. The Detroit-based automaker is racing with Toyota Motor Corp. and Chrysler Group LLC, which have also indicated they will include the feature in some 2014 models. Global shipments of wirelessl

Whoever gets this inti their vehicles will have a big advantage in drawing this wireless generation into their showrooms (that's if those are still necessary in the future).

In ten years, these charging devices will be suspected of causing cancer.

Most phones can't use it but that wouldn't stop GM for charging extra for it

It is not an option I would want. I hope they don't offer it in EVs since they cannot afford to reduce their range on electricity any further.

The phone should not even be used in the car so why would it need a charger. Government Motors is reaching for anything and appears to care less about safety.

A GREATER NEED (for GM) IS A SAFE, RELIABLE AUTOMOBILE !!!!!
Ford & Toyota should also focus in these two areas where they also fall short !!!

As long as EV users are paying for all of it; including road repair, electric grid upgrades and new power plants, I am all for it. Other wise, no.

Needing to recharge batteries so frequently is just indicative on how far this technology is lagging behind the rest of the "gizmo" technology. I suspect manufacturers need to flex their muscles onto this critical component used by most of the wired and/or Wi-Fi technologies.
