High crude oil prices are stoking speculation about the next wave of mergers and acquisitions in the solar energy industry. On Thursday, Standard & Poor’s released the results of a study examining recent trends in global announced M&A activity targeting producers and manufacturers in the solar power space. Based on S&P’s analysis, there appears to be a meaningful relationship between high oil prices and solar M&A activity. Per S&P’s synopsis: From 2004-2008, the annual value of solar M&A activity steadily rose each year, with deal activity reaching $3.1 billion in 2008 (oil prices peaked in July 2008). The global recession, which came soon after, drove down energy demand and oil prices, leading solar M&A to decrease to $2.9 billion in 2009. After the worst of the recession, deal volume

High oil prices will lead to bankruptcy if not M and A.

This is all part of the Obama conspiracy to make oil unaffordable so his stimulus sucking buds get rich off solar power. The bottom line is that Obama has done nothing to control fuel speculation/prices, reduce our dependence on foreign fuels, or improve our economy. The sole agenda of Obama is to cater to his tree hugging, stimulus sucking, union dominated, ultra liberal major contributors. As a result, we continue to be screwed at the pump, with our utilities, & with our taxes. Nothing will change as long as Obama is in office & controls the Senate. 2014 Elections are coming - stop this madness!!

I'm surprised it hasn't had greater interest or demand since gas went over $3.

If the oil prices were naturally high instead of artificially inflated, the solar power industry would have more legs to stand on. Right now, it is as credible as our president.

Maybe the oil companies should buy all the solar companies and quadruple the price of solar panels to make oil look really inexpensive to buy.

This is called a market reaction. If you are a government bureaucrat who prefers to legislate results instead of allowing the market to determine results, please understand this concept.
