Cost to companies of cutting corners ‘can be tremendous’ when disaster strikes

“Despite what happened in Quebec, I’m still saying that the rail industry is the model,” said president of the Union of Canadian Transportation Employees

“The inspections are done very regularly. They inspect everything, including the crossings, the rail lines themselves, the cars, the brakes, the wheels”

It’s not clear how recently the Montreal, Maine & Atlantic Railway tracks or train involved in the accident were inspected

Workers inspect a six-car derailment outside Huntingdon on Thursday. The rail line is owned by U.S. company CSX Corp.

Sure, we've seen how "well" these rail regulations have worked... NOT!

And yet derailments and spills continue. So a solution must be found.

Overall, I suspect trains are quite safe, but just like the airlines, when there's a crash, the stories are huge.

Failure to implement the regulations rather than failure to follow

Pipelines can't help with shale oil fields which are mostly short-term deposits
Oil shipments by train have their own part

That's right Nicoalbum, clearly the need for pipelines has never been more evident!

The wrecks are due to the new gold rush - oil shipments by train skyrocketed

MMA's chairman admitted that it is a very lucrative buisness, let safety alone

No amount of safety regulations & procedures can stop "all" accidents. Trains, trucks & pipelines all come with inherent risks.

Conventional railway regulation may work - but it doesn't prevent the catastrophes

Railway regulation system works:officials inspect everything,including the crossing,the rail lines themselves,the cars,the brakes,the wheels.

Railway regulation works? Really??

This sounds just like Obammamama speak from the Canadians!

Ask the dead in Quebec if regulation is working!
