The Henry and Clara Ford estate at Fair Lane, which has been shuttered for two years, was reopened to the public Saturday for a celebration of the automotive icon’s 150th birthday. The celebration on the grounds of the estate also marked the official transferring of the keys from University of Michigan -Dearborn, which has been charged with keeping up the home, to a new non-profit, the Henry Ford Estate. Inc. “We are coming together today to recognize Henry’s 150th birthday and to recognize the official transfer of the estate to an entity that will take it into the future,” said Kathleen Mullins, President of the Henry Ford Estate, at a ceremony that included several of the Ford family members and company leaders. Good move. A public institution had it "shuttered," a private group will make it a museum open to the public.
