The Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority–East, a state board that was formed in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, took a dramatic action: It filed a lawsuit against nearly 100 oil, gas, and petrochemical companies it alleges bear collective responsibility for the sinking of South Louisiana.

"Racing to extract the region's resources, it has created an extensive network of oil and gas access and pipeline canals that slashes the coastline at every angle," the petition contends.

"This canal network is a mercilessly efficient, continuously expanding system of ecological destruction."

The board's demands for the companies, which include giants like BP and Exxon, are extensive.

You have to laugh at the lengths the freeloaders will go fund their hypocritical thinking.

Make no mistake as mitt4prez points out, this is nothing more than extortion.

Now Louisiana notices that their coast has been polluted by the oil corporations? There timing is very slow and off.

justpolluted it forever..

and didn't clean it up... that would cost too much.

the brits at Bp don't give a crud about our waters...

shell doesn't care about Nigeria either...

but let them try that in the north sea.. and oh boy! they'll clean it up quick..

we need to send our oil companies over there, and tell them to cut corners and cheat regulations.. let's see some good ole american paybacks.. I hear they are a real b_____.

Louisiana needs to make up its mind as to what it wants. Louisiana voters had the chance to rebuild and increase levees but decided to vote for gambling instead. Then in 2005 Hurricane Katrina hit and people in Louisiana are whining and crying because low lying New Orleans was flooded.

They like the money and perks of big oil, but need to understand the dangers.

More govt extortion. Any dough extracted will go to crony spending, not taxpayer relief.
