Imagine: You're driving a car, and the driver ahead of you is behaving erratically. He can't stay in a lane. He puts on his left turn signal but doesn't turn. He slows to a near stop for no apparent reason, then surges forward. Finally, he makes a right turn from the left lane. You mutter to yourself,

What city are you envisioning?

Our first stop is the annual "America's Best Drivers Report," published by Allstate Insurance Company. Allstate uses claims data to determine how often drivers in the largest 200 U.S. cities get into accidents.

The bottom 5:

No. 5: Baltimore.
No. 4: Tampa, Fla.
No. 3: Hialeah
No. 2: Philadelphia
No. 1: Miami. And it's not even close. First in automotive fatalities, first in pedestrian strikes, first in the obscenity-laced tirades ...

Miami and Hialeah are one and the same. I don't go on green until I look and yield means nothing. It has been a few years since the last business trip. Hope the next one is way off.
Tampa is fun too.

I had to go to Atlanta this week. The wife came along. She had never been and I don't think she will go again anytime soon. I have to go back in Oct!

Baltimore has been a long time. Don't remember it as a problem.

I don't know anyone that's witnessed 2 accidents occur in 1 day other than myself but it was in the bay area, St. Pete side, and every time I go down there, I see at least one so, I'm not surprised to see 3 FL cities on the list.

I'm surprised Washington DC didn't make the bottom 5. From having lived in its suburbs for years, I can attest there are some rotten drivers in DC.

My friends sell insurance in Philly, they say it's one of the most expensive car insurance places in the country. I don't know about Miami, their state minimum coverage is only Personal Injury Protection and property damage (no bodily injury to others?!)

I noticed Miami, Hialeah and Tampa are all on the list (Hialeah is in the top 200 cities in America?). All are Florida cities. What that says to me is that the snowbirds and older fogies are terrible drivers.

Now that article was a perfect circle. If my aunt wears pants, how soon would she become my uncle? I stated in an early reply....El Paso, Tx should be ranked close to the top. Reason being that on Tuesday and Thursdays everyone that wants to can make their own rules.....

Scary, I'm planning a road trip to Baltimore, I'm a little scared. I'd hate to have to deal with a situation, after a long trip. Maybe we'll switch drivers more often so we are more rested towards the end of the trip. In case we run into a bad driver. Its only a 6 hour trip but including stops will be longer. It shouldn't be 2 bad.

Wish me luck!

I'd like to nominate Houston. All four of those mentioned "bad driver" incidents happened in one day while I was driving across town last week. It's definitely a defensive driving city.
