President Barack Obama may or may not approve the Keystone XL pipeline, but it seems like the oil will continue to flow across North America.

Oil pipelines in the United States are undergoing a historic realignment in response to new production in the Eagle Ford development in south-central Texas, redevelopment of older production in the Permian Basin and new flows of oil from the Midwest and Canada that have oversupplied Midwest markets.

Here is an updated list of 38 projects planned or under way in the United States, including the controversial Keystone XL:

alex395: "Two and one half years and no decision on Keystone XL."

What is it about Executive Order 13337 you don't understand, son?

Two and one half years and no decision on Keystone XL. Arrogance in Chief too busy threatening other countries (China and Russia think he is incompetent anyway and he is just verifying their position) not to help Snowden in the NSA scandal. Obama would not know diplomacy or negotiating if it bit him in the butt.

It is amazing that some people cannot understand that the President may be against one pipeline while letting many others go though. Now, let's look at what the President did not approve the upper end of the Keystone XL pipeline. On a completely bi-partisan vote, the Nebraska legislature asked him not to approve it because of the bad path through Nebraska. The oil company changed the path only after the President stopped the pipeline. Now it is time for the pipeline to be built.

That said, I would rather see the pipeline built going east through Canada and then down to refineries in the NE US that currently use Brent.

NO APPROVAL for the Keystone XL pipeline. There are NO benefits whatsoever to the US.

WHY?

- CANADIAN oil
- CORROSIVE shale oil sand
- CHINESE steel and piping to be used
- MINIMAL if any new additional US jobs
- From Canada to Texas, across the US, including going over huge AQUIFERS
- US takes all the environmental RISKS without any benefits
- Oil will be EXPORTED to China or South America, NO PRICE RELIEF for the US

So, pray tell, why should we approve the Keystone XL pipeline? No benefits to the US.

DISAPPROVE the Keystone XL pipeline, have Canada take care of their own oil with a pipeline across Canada.

No, it's mainly the Keystone XL from Canada that is being denied by the afore mentioned.

Schvanda: " But how many refineries? Most (those not shut down or having fires or whatever excuse they use) are running above 90% capacity. Add more pipeline and what is going to happen?"

If you owned a refinery, why would you want to run it at a lower utilization rate? You want to run up your costs?

More pipelines will allow more crude and different varieties of crude to be delivered to underserved parts of the country, allowing refiners to select a crude slate most favorable to their configuration.
