President Obama's pronouncement Tues that the Keystone XL pipeline would only be approved if it produced no net change in greenhouse gas emissions was no surprise to Tom Steyer.

A few days earlier, the billionaire hedge fund manager had warned the president not to "trade" action on greenhouse gases for approval of Keystone XL. The warning was delivered as Steyer launched a summer-long social media campaign "We Love Our Land," with a goal to kill Keystone and keep Canadian oil bottled up in the tar sands.

27 years ago, he founded Farallon Capital, which built much of its wealth on shrewd investments in fossil fuels.

One of Farallon's biggest holdings is in U.S. pipeline company Kinder Morgan, which has plans to expand a major competitor to Keystone -- the TransMountain pipeline.

It should come as no surprise that Obama has a buddy that will make money if the Keystone project doesn't get built!

Build the pipe line on private land and you won't need Obama's approval.

I just don't care anymore. Bottem line is going to be who gets the biggest cash kick-backs. Added note: anything reported by Fox News aint' worth the time to read, or should be questioned for accuracy.

Why invest money into the Keystone pipeline when it could be instead invested in Tom Steyer's pipeline company Kinder Morgan? And just how much money did he invest into the Obama campaign? It could be advantageous to line the pockets of your contributors.

Here here, leraar2. I've been saying the refineries should be built there and then ship finished product to the rest of the world for years now.

Nit picking.
Modern industrial world nations and their economies needs oil.
Period.
Drill it; pump it; pipe it and use it.

Another Obama supporter, Warren Buffet, owns the railroad that is hauling a lot of the oil that the pipeline would carry. Obama's decision will have nothing to do with science, nothing to do with global warming, jobs, energy security,but only to do with contributions and politics. That is just the way Washington DC works.

have canada build a refinery NEAR the oil fields.

of course, canada does NOT OWN its natural resources;
they belong to the INTERNATIONAL OIL COMPANIES.

Really, who cares. We know we will not see any of the oil when the oil companies can sell it around the world for a higher profit. Best we can hope for is a few good jobs in the US.
