Chrysler made big news earlier in the month by refusing a recall request from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for the 1993-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2002-2007 Jeep Liberty. Last week, NHTSA boss David Strickland countered by defending his agency's request for the recall of 2.7 million Jeep SUVs. Today marked the deadline for Chrysler to formally respond to NHTSA, and it seems that both parties have met in the middle with Chrysler inspecting and upgrading some of the affected vehicles without using the word "recall," which would constitute the admission of a defect; instead, Chrysler said that it is conducting a "voluntary campaign.

Stick to the title of the article "Chrysler resolves recall issue with NHTSA, will inspect, upgrade affected Jeeps", and don't Make up your own story title.

Throw in a boat with a trailer and you've got a deal.

Adding a hitch to protect the tank? Maybe it'll work.

The tow hitches do work. I have one and it can save you $$$ if you get hit from behind.

This is another example of our tax dollars being wasted by the stimulus sucking, union dominated Big Three. After the bailout, I made a vow to never buy from the Big Three and intend to keep that promise.

Not much else they can do, these vehicles met safety standards at the time they were manufactured.

What good is a hitch on a burned out piece of metal? Einsteins at work at Jeep/Chrysler; another reason they are in trouble and with antics like this, it will probably be their death knell.

Maybe they should issue the little yellow diamond shaped signs that say "Fuel tank on board, Don't hit me". One more reason not to own a Chrysler/Fiat/Ram/Jeep/Dodge (or whatever the name of the week is).

If it works and tests out, not a bad solution. When my pickup was hit by another pickup my trailer hitch stopped him and did little damage to mine but almost totaled his rig.

I'm having some trouble with the idea that as long as something is "legal," it's all right.

If people died in car fires reasonably considered to be related to this gas tank/hitch/rear end crash business, why would anyone think it's all right to continue to permit this design to be on the road...?

Oh, wait, perhaps we could just put a warning sticker on the vehicle doors and let people choose for themselves to whether to ride in it.

Sounds like Detroit, give away tow hitches that may or may not fix the problem! Anything to avoid the dreaded "R" word!
