The United States, in a milestone that burnishes its growing energy reputation, for the first time in more than 50 years is exporting more gasoline than it imports.

One more nail in opec's coffin. As the US becomes the dominant world oil power, opec discombobulates.

Also the middle east will become insignificant strategically. They are on the road to self destruction. That day is coming soon. Let the islamics in the ME kill each other. Syria is the model.

So at least there is some good news. Doesn't it make you feel good that you are paying a higher price for gas so that more can be exported overseas?

Good news! Finally we are working our way back to being an exporting nation. Now with the deluge in oil production, we should start exporting that too.

And Alberta with huge oil reserves/production is a net importer of gasoline.

Thanks to Congress' actions on tax benefits, it is more profitable to export than sell in within the US.

Sounds like a good reason to develop higher refining capacity, right?

Exporting crude is ok. But, this is refined products. Not so good for the average joe or joey in the US.

From the article:

"The U.S. still has net imports of 40 percent of the crude oil and petroleum products it needs — but that’s down sharply from 60 percent in 2005."

We are still very dependent on other countries for oil.

Not good, some exports are good, but we need to build up our reserves and put the oil and refined products into our system to help lower the price at the pumps.

So lack of refining capacity isn't the cause of high Mid-west gas prices.

Good for the U.S. - after years of being hung by OPEC, we can now offer an alternative in a commodity the world needs.
