There seems no end to the stream of good news coming out of the energy sector.

After the International Energy Agency (IEA) last November hailed the United States shale revolution by predicting that the country would become the biggest producer of oil by the end of the decade, the compliments have now been returned.

The Energy Information Administration (EIA), the US government department that releases energy data, this week released a report updating on the world's shale potential.

The term shale revolution is shorthand for the enormous boost in gas - and increasingly oil - supply in the US and Canada, enabled by hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, an extraction technique that releases hydrocarbons from previously inaccessible rock formations.

Will this massive increase in supply result in a decrease in prices? It hasn't yet. The laws of economics no longer apply to the oil market.

How can destroying groundwater reserves and poisoning your neighbors be a good thing?

Do you know what fracking is? And what it entails?

One must remember that we are not alone in the shale business (though we may have a head start).

Shale is found around the world so the potential for more oil is huge.

Some just can not give up the witch hunt.Fracking means jobs, and a better economy. The oil companies know BIG BROTHER OBUMMA is waytching them, and will take necessary precautions. They're there to make money, not get envolved in lawsuits.

I'm not sure where all this is headed, but if we produce more domestic oil & gas that means we are less dependent upon OPEC for supply. The plus is that OPEC has also manipulated the price of oil and that could end too.

A revolution fueled by artificially inflated fossil fuel prices. We need to jump off oil and gas and move on to solar, wind, hydro, fusion, Sodium fueled fission and even bio-fuels. But, most importantly, we need to stop breeding like rabbits....

I am totally ignorant on this extraction process. How safe is fracturing and what is the long run effect to the rock formation and the land above and bordering those being extracted? Is there an article about that?
