A Southern California father is among the latest victims of an auto crime that’s baffling police across the country.

“Our jaws just dropped. We couldn’t believe it,” Steve Doi said.

Doi’s family was in Westminster for his daughter’s softball game when a burglar used a mysterious device to pop the locks and steal $3,000 worth of items. Among the pilfered possessions were his business iPad, daughter’s iTouch and his wife’s purse.

A photographer and video freelancer, Doi has a dashcam tucked under his rear-view mirror, constantly recording. That camera captured a man holding what looks like a cellphone in his right hand, rubbing it against his sweatshirt, possibly on a small device hidden in his left hand.

Video shows the man disappear from view before it sounds like the doors unlock. Mom

why keep that much stuff in the vehicle? If you can afford that much, you should have it well insured...

There was a news story on this technology in 2007.

Researchers say they've hacked car door locks.

"There are several barriers to using the technology."

I would say in the last six years criminals have overcome the barriers.

If they see something in the car they can just break a window. That's as low tech as it gets.

Thieves are jerks. Just like welfare bumbs. Too lazy to get employment, would rather live off someone's else hard labor.

Seems like some kind of rolling code generator...keeps sending out a new code until one finally unlocks the door. Just can't leave anything valuable in the car because some miscreant will be looking for it.

The best alarm is the simplest - the door switches and a super loud siren INSIDE that busts the eardrums of the intruder.

Wow. Hope those jaws didn't drop too low. You'll need some surgery to fix 'em. Keep 'em dropped. Each and every day you read more and more ways people can rip you off. Just awful. But it's the work of the Darwin Society. Keep up or die.

I hope you are being sarcastic in this case spanky
or I hope you dancingdee and sputnik are referring to the camera and not the device the thief used
