Chevron has blocked an attempt to enforce a landmark $19-B civil court judgment from Ecuador against the company’s assets in Canada.

Lawyers for plaintiffs from Ecuador say they will appeal the decision of Ontario Superior Court Judge David Brown, who ruled on Wednesday that Ontario is not the proper jurisdiction for the case.

“Chevron does not possess any assets in this jurisdiction at this time,” Judge Brown said.

The Ecuadorian plaintiffs obtained the $19-B judgment against Chevron after a lengthy pollution trial in Ecuador. The plaintiffs last year hired famed Toronto litigator Alan Lenczner to bring an action in Ontario to enforce the judgment against the company’s Canadian assets.

fines do not work against oil companies, they just jack the price to cover the cost.

Chevron has certainly polluted Utah 3 times in the last couple of years. I have to wonder if Ecuador does not really have a case and they are dealing with the super money maze.
