US refiner Phillips 66 said Wednesday it plans to increase its product export capacity by 50,000 b/d to 370,000 b/d by the end of this year and to raise the volume of less expensive North American crude it processes at its US refineries.

Phillips 66 also said it exported 150,000 b/d of refined products in the first quarter, a "significant increase" from the same period of 2012.

It said it completed projects at its Ferndale, San Francisco and Alliance refineries, which expanded refined product export capability by 35,000 b/d.

In total, Phillips 66 has the capacity to export 320,000 b/d from its domestic refineries, it said.

"Through further investment at [our] facilities on the Gulf and West coasts, export capability is expected to increase to 370,000 b/d by the end of 2013," it said.

Why not keep the 'less expensive N.American processed crude HERE ' and allow Am. consumers to benefit rather than other countries.

Export? Is this where all of the US crude is going to go? Is this that "energy independence" we kept hearing about?

I don't what article you guys are reading, but it says they are going to export more refined products. In addition, they are going to use more domestic (cheaper) crude. In other words, they are going to use more cheaper oil to make gasoline and diesel to sell at higher prices by exporting it.

It makes a lot more sense to expand an existing refinery than it is to create a new greenfield refinery. Phillips 66 isn't going to go out and do an eight billion dollar refinery when they can do small changes that result in a lot of extra production.

"Yes, more US refineries!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I saw no mention of any new refinery, just expansions at existing ones.
