Michigan drivers may no longer be let off the hook if child passengers aren’t in a safety seat.

Under a bill passed 92 to 16 Tuesday by the Republican-led state House, judges would no longer be required to waive the court penalties for not having a safety seat.

I would think a child's safety would be paramount.

Good ides. Tell those parents who do not use a safety seat for their child , they will face a fine.

Hard to believe 16 representatives voted against this bill. What is wrong with them?

I thought every state required child safety seats and enforced the law!

It is a little late to buy a safety seat after the crash also. Who will waive the injury if the child is unsecured? It is a little late to buy the safety seat after the crash. Too poor? Set your priority; give up the cable, the internet, ipod, or the child's life?

The parents showing up in Michigan courts because they lacked car seats were mostly those living in poverty or those who didn't like having the government tell them what to do. A judge could waive the fine for good cause. Not anymore if the Republicans get their way; the poor will get poorer and the government haters will get angrier.

Yes, make people follow the law, not wiggle around it.
