In ordinary times, an up-and-comer such as Athabasca Oil. would be reaping the benefits of its hot oil sands and light oil prospects in AB, a top technical team and a partnership with PetroChina.

But these are not ordinary times, and Athabasca is struggling with a perfect storm it says is largely outside its control — a dispute with aboriginals, depressed oil prices from lack of export pipelines due to political posturing, third-party operational setbacks, unfulfilled joint ventures, and market nervousness that delays in collecting $1.32-B from its Chinese partner could push the company into a cash crunch.

“We’re in the penalty box today,” CEO acknowledged as the company’s shares slid 1.8% to $7.29.

The mood reflects uneasiness about its future, largely due to lack of new pipelines. Lar

Humble...is the US supposed to bail out Canada when they pull a boner? No country should become that dependent on a neighbor.

Sad story, not an easy struggle. Canada's still like a third world country, sitting on the oil patched, not developing enough hi-tech
