AAA said Tuesday that motorists nationwide are paying the lowest springtime gas prices in three years, but don’t tell that to drivers in Illinois.

Despite a recent dip, drivers here are paying the highest average price in the lower 48 states. With a statewide average on Tuesday of $3.91 a gallon, Illinois drivers are paying more than every state except Alaska at $3.97 and Hawaii and $4.34.

Costs are even higher in Chicago where the average price was $4.32 per gallon Tuesday, according to AAA. Prices averaged $4.14 in the suburbs.

Yes; discouraging here in OK seeing spikes in prices. They certainly never fall by the same amounts.

It doesn't seem that the reasons this article is stating for such high gas prices is truly a good enough explanation. It sounds more like excuses to keep those gas prices up!

I beg to differ. Every station I pass on my 15 mile ride to work near O'Hare shows diesel at 3.99 while E-10 is never lower than 4.17

Good. Serves them right for jacking up the tolls for out-of-state drivers. (Those paying in cash pay 2x as much as those paying with a prepaid "pass" system. That's mostly out-of-state drivers who don't need a prepaid pass card.)

When we travel from Florida to Iowa and back, we fill up in Padukah which get us to Davenport (and vice versa). Therefore, we don't buy fuel in Illinois. Been doing this for >25 years.

Could the cause be the stupid regulations in the People's Republic of Illinois?

I am so tired of hearing the Perfect Storm stuff....if they would have more refining capacity then this would not be an issue.

I though the Ethanol revolution would solve this???? sarcasm....

Here in North-Centeal part of Indiana it jumped to $3.89.9 from $3.64.9. That's after the last spike that saw it go from $3.39.9 to $3.79.9. Dropped only 15 cents then up 25 cents. Sucks to live here with gas prices.

Marching higher, hah! It's galloping at full speed. The cheapest I saw it around here today was $4.19 and I'm not talking Chicago. It is usually at least 20 cents higher in the city.
