Having your car stolen is awful. Just awful. But, as I learned not long ago, it's not entirely hopeless. I did get (most) of my stolen car back, and I learned a great deal in the entire process. So, in hopes of giving a little bit of that goodness back, here's what I took away from the experience of recovering a stolen car.

Seen camera footage of wrecks and the metor shower from cameras in cars people installed.
Put one of these cameras in your car's window and you can also view them on the internet. I have home security cameras I can also do that with. Surprise when you watch the cops pull them over.

Without a doubt be proactive! However, doing everything one can to prevent the vehicle from being stolen is the best way to avoid the situation.

It's a lot easier to just lock the doors every time you leave your vehicle.

"Who wants it back. It's a good excuse to go out and get another."

Except most people here claim that they can't afford a new car no matter what the cost. What you get from the insurance company will be low and don't forget the deductible. And don't accept the insurance unless you know you don't want your car back. If it is recovered, it belongs to the insurance company and they might sell it for more than they gave you for it. It's a win, win.......for them.

It's called give him the keys and the car... throw some cash on the dash and when he goes to grab for the cash scatter all over the dash, pull out the 380, smile and empty the clip!! However, you will have to replace the bloody and bullet riddled parts.
But, then again the laws suck in this country. The criminals have all the rights to a fair trial and a nice comfortable jail (paid by us the taxpayers). The victims(us)suffer, mostly from physical injury or death!! And who pays for it?? US again!! Makes no sense!!

Good info but as others pointed out, could be unseen damage that cost you plenty after you get the car back.

Kid across the street had his car stolen one Sunday morning. I found it by the local flea market 8 hr later while riding my bicycle. Police wanted to know I could find it before them.

Just increase the penalty of auto crime.

This might work on a small city, but not larger ones. Take your loss and get another car.

A good article. Not finding your car where you left it is a real downer. It happened to me. Mine apparently made several trips to Mexico before being recovered. Some dummie bought it for about a tenth of its value and tried to register it. Seller was a dummie also - both got busted.
