Crude-oil supplies jumped much more than expected, but gasoline stockpiles dropped for the week ended March 29, according to data from the American Petroleum Institute issued late Tuesday. Crude supplies were up 4.7 million barrels, while a Platts survey of analysts showed a forecast for a 2.5 million-barrel climb. Gasoline inventories dropped 5.0 million barrels, compared with analysts' forecast for a fall of 1.25 million barrels. Distillate stockpiles fell by 1.85 million barrels, more than the 1 million-barrel decline expected by analysts. The API data come ahead of the more closely watched U.S. Energy Information Administration report due Wednesday. Ahead of the API report, May crude rose 0.1% to settle at $97.19 a barrel.

Again, the inventories of the raw materials (crude oil) are on the rise, but yet the finished products (gasoline, distillates, etc) are falling. We kow that consumption of these products is down (for many reasons) but there is something fishy going on with manipulation to no doubt keep retail prices artificially high.

So why do we waste tax dollars on the EIA when the API can give us the same info for free?

I would guess this will have a direct influence on gas prices, like making them higher.

Wholesale prices for gasoline are down around 11 cents per gallon today. Will that help us at the pump? Probably go up 12 cents tomorrow.

I just read this in another GB article. What I want to know is how it will affect pump prices. And I can only surmise that they will go UP.

Crude stockpiles rise, gas inventories drop WHY? Because the oil companies are purposely not refining enough to make the price at the pump skyrocket.

If refinery capacity is up and inventory is down, it means we are driving more or someone is hoarding gasoline.
