The midsize sedan segment is filled with competition, but if Ford (NYSE: F ) or General Motors wants to regain market share lost to the Japanese, that is where it will be done. The majority of Detroit's automakers' profits come from trucks, but market share is driven by high volume vehicles such as Ford's Fusion, Focus, and a couple others. The Fusion has had tremendous success, and is beginning to change consumers' minds about the quality of Ford's vehicles. Let's take a look at how it's selling and what critics are saying. One thing is clear: If Ford continues to have success with other vehicles as it has had with the Fusion, it will be a stock you want to own.

"Looks like the government know who's a viable company."

I got a good belly-laugh out of this. We'll lose over $12 billion on the "investment" in GM. Nice profit to the hedgers, a hardy middle finger to the taxpayers.

I have yet, in 50+ years, found a single business that the government has been able to run better than private industry. I'd like to have some of what you're smoking...

This past two years Ford been a lousy stock investment compared to GM. I know, I hold both. And today it shows more where Ford is down 1.6% and GM is down .4%
Good management Ford? Your new product rollout has got to be the slowest in the industry.

Yes, good point. Success without using taxpayer dollars. They'll continue to get my business while GM and Chrysler won't.

Nice for Ford.
Wish the article had some actual fuel efficiency numbers in paragraph on all of the Fusion's different engine options.

I do own Ford stock and I do like the Fusion. But Ford will be in trouble if they don't fess up on their misleading mileage claims for the C-Max and Fusion hybrids. That is the very thing that can change the consumers minds right back around again.

The new Ford Fusion might be stylish. However, I'm not planning to buy one.

I'm for sure changing my attitude about Ford.

They have a history of making some of the absolutely most popular models, on the market, and then they screw with them and screw them up.

I may be done with Ford.

Loved the Fusion when I first saw it at the auto show but didn't get to drive one. Wary of Big 3 products and swore them off long ago for more well built automobiles from Japan and Europe. Although I like the styling of the new Fusion, I wonder if after 5 years of driving it will devolve into the rattle-traps I owned long long ago. Have been driving a Jetta TDI for the last several years and love it. At 77K miles no rattles, drives like a charm, and still gets 40 mpg combined.
