Reuters) - Exxon Mobil on Sunday continued cleanup of a pipeline spill that spewed thousands of barrels of heavy Canadian crude in Arkansas as opponents of oil sands development latched on to the incident to attack plans to build the Keystone XL line.

Exxon spokesman Alan Jeffers said on Sunday that crews had yet to excavate the area around the pipeline breach, a needed step before the company can estimate how long repairs will take and when the line might restart.

Nice ... I just found out about this on Twitter thanks to a local comic book shop posting about it. Apparently the MSM is not paying much attention to it. Other than this article, I haven't seen anything else about it.

Bttlecat: Keystone XL will help, may not have much of an impact, but it will employ people even if it is temporary. Local economies will benefit as the project passes thru.

Yes, we know all the people people employed for the oil spill. Great job opportunity.

The problem isn't the pipeline itself, but the lack of safety given, the lack of oversight, the lack of responsibility taken by those in charge and the lack of honesty. The people affected had no idea that a pipeline was even built under their homes.

come on, this is just like airplane crashes. Big news but no one reports the millions of gallons that pipelines safely transport every month. Just the mishaps get the news minutes!!!!

Exxon is already trying to downplay the oil spill as minor.

NO approval for the Keystone XL pipeline. There are NO benefits whatsoever to the US.

WHY?

- CANADIAN oil
- Shale oil sand, very CORROSIVE
- CHINESE steel and piping to be used
- MINIMAL if any new additional US jobs
- From Canada to Texas, across the US, including going over huge AQUIFERS
- Oil will be EXPORTED to China or South America, NO PRICE RELIEF for the US
- US takes all the environmental RISKS without any benefits

So, pray tell, why should we approve the Keystone XL pipeline? No benefits to the US.

DISAPPROVE the Keystone XL pipeline, have Canada take care of their own oil with a pipeline across Canada.

I note how all the cons regarding fossil fuels are ignored by most of the fossil foolers here on this site....

one spill after another after another... it's just 'business as usual' for these polluters

oil, gas, coal, and nuke are destroying the planet and our chances for life....

and all most will do .. is say 'duh'....

I don't know about you, but I'm tired of all this crap about Keystone this or Keystone that. Like, why do I care one way or the other, right? I have enough to think about already, so can we tone it down a little with the Keystone thing?

No offense and whatever if that's your thing, I'm just sayin'

Another reason to raise the price of gas!
