WASHINGTON -- The national average price of gasoline decreased during March for the first time in 10 years, and gasoline prices now average nearly 30 cents per gallon less than a year ago, said AAA in its Monthly Gas Price Report. The national average should remain less expensive than last year's prices this spring, it said.
The national average for April 1 was $3.63 per gallon, which compares to $3.92 per gallon a year ago. The national average decreased 15 cents per gallon (3.9 percent) last month, which was the first month-over-month decline for March since 2003, when the average decreased by one cent per gallon.

The price of regular in this area last April was right around $3.60 - now it's around $3.50. That's pretty much still within the "margin of error" of the statistics. I don't think there's enough difference to get excited about. Not yet. If it goes below $3.20 maybe we can talk about it.

Ultimately, gasoline price fluctuations are largely cyclical.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, @billwho, but $1.50/gal gas is way back in the rear view mirror and it ain't coming back. No way crude oil will ever get cheap enough again to force those kinds of gas prices. We already drank all of the cheap oil out there. All that's left is the expensive stuff like shale oil, tar sands, and deep water oil fields.

I'm not sure about this because it was expected to be at the highest level during April. Let's see if this doesn't happen.
