Significant cars from the 1990s are harder to come by than meaningful models of the '60s, '70s or '80s, but there are some gems to uncover. A few represent points in a model's evolution, steppingstones to where they are today; others are game changers from a design, technology or purely philosophical standpoint. Still others are significant on a more personal level. Here 18 rides that represent the best of the decade that brought us "Dances With Wolves," "Silence of the Lambs," "Forrest Gump," "Titanic" and President Bill Clinton.

Interesting article from an engineering perspective. What cars people actually bought and drove says more about our culture.

Ford Explorer was a ripoff of the Jeep Cherokee. Ford just had better marketing.

Great list, really surprised they came up with that many from that era. Not that any of them, with the slight exception of the Miata, ever caught my fancy at the time.

No surprise for some of them since the Ford Explorer influenced many people that they HAD to have an SUV.
