Controversy over fracking is headed back to the Fort Collins City Council.

Council members on Tuesday are scheduled to give final consideration to an ordinance that would ban oil and gas operations, including fracking, within city limits. The ordinance passed 5-2 two weeks ago, with council members Wade Troxell and Aislinn Kottwitz in opposition.

Since then, Gov. John Hickenlooper has said the state would sue any municipality that bans oil and gas development, claiming such restrictions would violate the state’s authority over oil and gas regulation.

Mayor Karen Weitkunat told the Coloradoan last week she does not want the city to be sued, but Fort Collins has a responsibility to protect its residents’ interests.

Perhaps the good people of Colorado would best wait until the toxic effects of the fracking fluids are conclusively observed from North Carolina's fracking dumps.

nhlivefree - I am pretty sure the guv is a degreed petroleum geologist. He knows what he is talking about. His politics is pretty far to the left in my opinion.

Too many public official are running scared and/or in Big Oil's back pocket.

So much for local rule as the bought and paid for Governor demands "justice" for his oil baron buddies. Just stomp down hard on the preferences of your constituents in Fort Collins Gov. Hick... Have another drink of fracking fluid while you're at it Gov.

City officials learned this tactic from their public school administrators where they, also, practice a policy of zero-tolerance for common sense.
