Get rid of the Democrats AND Republicans. Both parties lost touch with America and the things that matter the most.

It is true about the word "control" in the phrase "control gas prices" that the president does not "control" them, but the president DOES control many of the factors that effect the price of gasoline. For one thing, the president's policies influence the price up or down.
So it was with Bush that he could have done more to "influence" the price down before July 2008. He could have asked the Saudis to drill more, like he said he could do during the 2000 election debates. Ultimately he did influence prices down when he announced and followed through with approving more leases and permits for drilling and with removing the moratorium on drilling offshore. The price of oil started its drop during the speech he made those announcements. The price eventually dropped to $1.61 as a result. The price began climbing again after Obama won the election in 2008.
So it has been true about Obama influencing the price of oil. When he asked the Saudis to drill more and increase their output of oil (while telling Americans that increased drilling at home has no effect on oil prices), the price of oil dropped. When his monetary policy was to weaken the US dollar and obstruct domestic production of oil on federal land and water, the price has gone up.
Back in 2008, Obama and other liberals blamed Bush for high gas prices, but these same people today refuse to say that Obama is to blame for anything. In fact they say "no party and no President can control gas prices," but that is not what they said in 2008 and earlier. In fact in 2007 when the DemocRATs took control of Congress, they said they would change the price. See the following video.

"President George W. Bush recognized the problem and made lower gas prices a major part of his 2006 State of the Union address, calling for increased domestic energy production to wean the nation from foreign oil ..."
And that worked out real well since gas prices hit their highest levels ever less than two years later. Fact is that no party and no President can control gas prices, and much as Fox News wishes it were true, they have very little impact on election results past, present, or future.

It won't hurt the Democrats because the Main Stream Media will not report/ blame this administration as it would others/Republican in the White House. And the Lemmings will follow the MSM.

Reasons??? How about excuses? Who remembers last year when WTI jumped seven dollars in one day and gas jumped fifteen cents in one day because of an EU bailout for Spain that never happened??? Until Obozo regulates very greedy speculators, gas price averages will go up every single year. This is not the hope and change I was hoping for, Mr. Liar in Chief.

Enjoyed some of the replies. Ultimately, don't care if it hurts them. They don't seem to care about me.

As though Democrats or Republicans could control what the corner gas station puts on its price sign. Ah, but they want us to think that...

I hope the democratic party crumbles and something better takes its place. I am very tired of them and their rhetoric. The republicans are not much better either. We need to clean politically clean house now!
They are out to bankrupt us. They are out to take our constitutional rights away. This country needs to be flushed out and cleaned.

I gave the democrats and their allies the benefit of the doubt but it is very clear to me in the past few years that they are entirely out of touch with the reality. I hope the democratic party crumbles and something better takes its place. I am very tired of them and their rhetoric.

It will take more than high gas prices to endanger Democrats. With Obama's approval rating at an all time high, blaming Bush is still working.
