ABINGTON, Mass. (AP) — While most businesses shut down early so workers could get home before the brunt of the snowstorm, some stayed open and were doing a brisk business.

Rosie’s Liquors in Abington did about five times its normal business Friday as customers snapped up 30-packs of beer, multiple bottles of wine and every bottle of Captain Morgan Spiced Rum in the store.

Manager Kristen Brown said it’s ‘‘almost been like Christmas’’ in the store.

Gas stations were also mobbed with customers filling their tanks. At Abington Sunoco, owner James Stone said they had run through almost their whole supply of regular gas and are saving the last of it for snowplow drivers.

The snowstorm is expected to dump 1 to 3 feet of snow along the New York-to-Boston corridor.

Typical panic buying ahead of a snowstorm. We see it here whenever a big storm is forecasted.

Looks like the recent price hike at the pump may be partly due to the storm. Midwest prices have gone up further to $3.75.

Just checked the Boston traffic cams on trafficland.com and there is not much moving there this morning. Folks were wise to stock up on these "essentials" before the storm.

Liquor stores are one of few businesses that are recession proof.

I have been through these conditions before. It is always a good idea to be prepared instead of being sorry you didn't.

Essentials to staying warmer prior to storms - such as gasoline, oil, food, water and yes even liquor can help substain life. Those of us who have served in Red Cross Disaster Management where alcohol is not allowed still felt worn out punch drunk from the work! As someone who has lived through snow storms, floods, hurricances, tornadoes, etc and their aftermaths - without power for approximately a week to ?- you appreciate ever single thing. Second, Acts of Nature do create change and economic growth. I call it Mother Nature's redecorating and grateful for all those that shared, remodeled and continue onward. Third, Viva romance, cuddles, hugs and staying warm together.

Comical....Gotta stay warm, besides liquor can be bartered for fuel......

I would imagine the drug dealers have experienced an onslaught by the crack heads who are stocking up before the storm as well.

Yes, they will have good revenue for the days before the storm ... but then they will be shut down during the storm and lose their normal revenue. It will equal out.
