Snow began falling across the Northeast on Friday, ushering in what was predicted to be a huge, possibly historic blizzard and sending residents scurrying to stock up on food and gas up their cars. The storm could dump 30 to 90 centimetres of snow from New York City to Boston and beyond.

Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick banned all traffic from roads after 4 p.m. ET, believed to be the state's first such ban since the blizzard of 1978.

Stocking up

Some gas stations in Connecticut ran out of fuel Thursday night during the rush to prepare for the storm. Long lines were reported at many stations.

Record setting 32" for Portland, Maine! Ah climate change and the new extremes it brings to all!

Only 24" in less than 12 hours here in southern NH. Record rate over time for us! Fortunately it was also exceptionally dry and much lighter than the norm for here. No power outages this time either.

No wonder Straitliner, that was the top baby producing week since WWII! It was also a great week of snowmobiling with pay for me!!!

The administration and the media keep on telling us that we have this out of control global warming problem so this snow storm and cold winter we are having isn't really happening.

I'm sure the people in Valdez, AK, where a meter of snow is not a big deal, are getting quite a giggle out of all the big to-do by the city folks back east.
