The House Taxation Committee introduced a bill Monday to redirect sales tax money from the Kansas Department of Transportation to the state general fund.

The Legislature passed a temporary 1 percent sales tax in 2010 as a stopgap to plug recession-driven budget holes. In July, 0.6 percent of the hike is scheduled to expire. Four-tenths of the increase is set to begin flowing directly to KDOT in support of the T-Works program created to build and repair transportation infrastructure over a 10-year period.

Can we just find that committee and string them up? That is the worst idea in the world. That is why Illinois is in such a crisis with their pension funds. The money that was supposed to go in there went into the general fund and got spent my our state congresscritters.

People complain about back room politics. Now they are complaining about open and above board politics. Moral? ?? I guess so. Should it be done? NO. There was a plan and a promise made years ago - keep that plan and that promise.

They can change them however they want. Past experience shows there is no requirement for politicians to be 'honest.' What an oxymoron that would be.
