PLEASANTON, Calif., Jan. 30, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Safeway Inc. (SWY) and ExxonMobil (XOM) have teamed up to provide Safeway shoppers a new way to save at the pump. Safeway shoppers and ExxonMobil customers can now earn Reward Points for most products purchased at Safeway stores in the Mid-Atlantic region and redeem their Reward Points at participating Exxon or Mobil locations. It’s too bad that the program is in the Mid-Atlantic as there are no Exxon gas stations here in Northern California. I would love to see Safeway work with one of the gas companies here on such a program. Examples of gas companies here in Northern California: Valero, 76, Chevron, Beacon, and Shell.

I sure do miss the 3 cent discount that Safeway use to offer.

>> This sounds like a regional deal. Not sure who supplies the Safeway stations in the Southwest.

Every gas station gets gas from the most convenient refinery. It has nothing to do with the brand.

I guess the Ralphs/Shell partner is a success.

Wish we had competition in Maine, it's either Wal-Mart, or Hannafords.
