Many very 'unusual' tiny cars to say the least. these microcars would be a hazard today most anywhere.

Thanks for posting this. I have never even seen pictures of most of these. I did have a neighbor, when I was a kid, who had an Isetta with the door opening to the front.

Modern cars, even small ones, are loaded up with electric everything, AC, safety features and ten or so airbags (just because Americans won't learn to use seat belts properly). They also have complex anti-pollution systems and fuel injection. No wonder they weigh 50% more than similar sized cars from 60 years ago. Heck, even a Honda Civic has gained about 1000 pounds in 'stuff' in the last 25 years.
"Weigh is the enemy" as the famous designer (not just cars, but trains and many other industrial designs) Raymond Loewy opined.
Some amazing things were done in scarcity. One of my favourite smaller cars of the post-war ear was the French Panhard Dyna. It was first built of aluminum as steel was scarce. It used a high output air-cooled 2 cylinder engine up front, and the philosophy of the engineering team had a goal which they achieved, summed up in a few numbers: 6-6-100-2. Translated from metric terms, it meant it had to carry six passengers comfortably, averaging 40 mpg while driving all day long under any conditions at 60 miles per hour, on 2 cylinders. Small on the outside, but big on the inside; this was a family sized car compared to some of these real small bubble cars which were often just enclosed motorcycles.

They can double as a casket to bury the owner in when they get into an accident with an SUV.

interesting to note these cars were built 50-60 years ago. Kinda points out that our modern auto engineering for economy look really pitiful. guess we haven't made much progress in all these years (or we didn't want to)

I can see why one would only want to collect and not drive these. I guess some people just have more bucks than practicle sense.
