One day, New Jersey’s toll roads and bridges may wake up to a cashless future, with camera-equipped plazas that negate the need to slow down to a crawl in order to pay to use the Parkway or the Delaware Memorial Bridge.

But, right now, it’s slow going.

el fr, very true. When you have to stop and physically pay a toll, you see the money leaving, when it is automatic, you don't notice and use the toll system even more.

As the article states, you also have to have a way to deal with out of state drivers. I know if I ever drove up there I would end up on a toll road without even knowing it since they are everywhere.

Just suck the money out of everyone's bank account without them even knowing how much it is costing them to drive the roads. highway robbery

Toll roads exist so that hack politicians can give their fat, worthless brothers-in-law a high paying,no show, job.

From the article, “It would be a plus to just have the bill sent to your home and you can pay it like a credit card bill.” ?????????

So if I don't have EZ-Pass and drive to Delaware one time a month I get a bill in the mail for one crossing of the bridge?

Sounds like a lot of postage and manpower expense to me, but I guess the USPS needs the business.

We have a couple of those systems. The only thing the article doesn't say is that if you don't have a transponder, then there is a "camera" fee of about $4 extra each time you enter the highway or a toll bridge...

Meaning out of staters are tossed in the turbine powered lemon squeezer and Christie's budget is balanced, so he can have The Won (II) over to look over his tactics...

New Cashless System simply ties directly in to your bank account to immediately and electronically drain your account through transaction errors caused by static electricty, and then pulls your kids out of school as hostages until the bill is paid...completely user-friendly.

I just plain don't like to be bothered by toll roads (emotional response). Find another means for financing and make them freeways.

The real problem is having toll roads to begin with. Taxes should go for infrastructure rather than armaments/wars.

There are some real issues with this process with there are so many vehicles which are not legally registered... eg. vehicles are sold and the new owner never registers the vehicle.
