I wouldn't mind having some of that used batteries as backup energy source for my home. Way to recycle, reuse, and re-purpose!

That's what I would like to know. Toyota uses extensive state of charge management to get the maximum economical life out of the HV battery.

After reading I think they are talking about produced but never used batteries now that they've switched to those hot burning batteries
If not, I agree with GingoutMD

In your dreams. Used nickel metal hydride batteries are a gold mine of easily recyclable materials.

If the cars cannot use the batteries because they are starting to fail or cannot hold a charge, then why would I buy a system that uses these "dying" batteries?

The market for used EV and hybrid batteries for recycling is poor. This is an effort to address the low value of a used battery that is no longer suitable for use in a vehicle.

A new use for the batteries in the Electric Cars which are not meeting their designed service life.
Do the consumers get a core charge back for their old batteries?
